Flavored vodkas were an instant hit when Stolichnaya introduced the first one to the U.S. in 1986, and vanilla is one of the favorite flavors.

Vanilla vodka mixes well with a wide range of other flavors, so it should be no surprise that it turns up in a wide variety of cocktails. It's became almost as necessary to cocktails as vanilla extract is to bakers. Even when the vanilla isn't readily apparent, it helps smooth and sweeten other flavors. Be careful - vanilla vodka can also make such easily sippable drinks that they can sneak up on the unwary!

Yellow Cake Martini Recipe

  • 1 part vanilla vodka
  • 1 part triple sec
  • 1 part pineapple juice

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice, and shake to chill. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. If desired, garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge.

Soho Martini Recipe

  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 1/2 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 oz. orange curacao liqueur
  • 1 dash orange bitters

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice, and shake to mix. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a flamed orange peel.

White Mocha Martini Recipe

  • 1 oz vanilla vodka
  • 1 oz white chocolate liqueur
  • 1 oz coffee liqueur
  • ½-1 oz cream or half & half

Rim a cocktail glass with a mixture of finely ground espresso, fine sugar and cinnamon. Combine all ingredients in a shaker over ice, and shake until icy cold. Strain into the prepared glass.

Death by Chocolate Martini Recipe

  • 1 1/2 oz. chocolate liqueur
  • 1 1/2 oz. dark creme de cacao
  • 1 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 1 1/2 oz. half & half
  • 3 Oreo cookies, crushed into fine crumbs
  • 1 tbls. powdered sugar
  • lime wedge

To make garnish: Mix the cookie crumbs and and powder sugar, and spread on a flat plate. Use the lime wedge to dampen the edge of a chilled cocktail glass, and rim the glass with the cookie mixture. Set glass aside.

Add the liquid ingredients to a shaker with ice, and shake to chill. Strain into the prepared cocktail glass.

Caribbean Martini Recipe

  • 1 1/2 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 3/4 oz. coconut rum
  • splash of pineapple juice

Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker, and shake until cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with a wedge of fresh pineapple.

Vanilla Twist Martini Recipe

  • 6 parts vanilla vodka
  • 1 part Cointreau
  • 1 part dry vermouth
  • vanilla bean for garnish

Combine liquid ingredients in a shaker filled with cracked ice, and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Serve with the vanilla bean garnish.
